Elaine is an expert in the provision of all workplace services and specialised industrial relations, including workplace investigations, industrial audit, conflict management and facilitation.

During most of the 1980’s and the early part of the 1990’s Elaine worked in industrial relations as a senior industrial relations officer at the Public Service Board of NSW/Public Employment Industrial Relations Authority and the NSW Totalisator Agency Board. Her responsibilities included the negotiation of industrial awards and agreements; appearances in the NSW Industrial Relations Commission; participation in policy development and implementation in such matters as part-time working arrangements; sick leave; anti-discrimination; and the identification of structural and systemic inefficiencies within public sector agencies.

Elaine was the Manager- Employee Relations at the NSW TAB from 1990 to mid-1993, where she was responsible for industrial relations; the management of workplace health and safety; staff discipline and welfare.

Elaine was called to the NSW Bar in 1993. From 1993 to 2013 she specialised in employment law; industrial relations and discrimination law. She represented a number of public sector agencies including : the Department of Education; the Department of Family and Community Services; the Department of Corrective Services; the Attorney General’s Department; National Parks and Wildlife; the Department of Planning and Environment; Sport and Recreation; NSW Police; NSW Fire Brigades; and many others. In addition she acted for numerous private sector clients in both the state and federal industrial jurisdictions.

In addition to her employment law practice Elaine was also regularly engaged by the Health Care Complaints Commission of NSW in respect of matters before the various health professionals disciplinary tribunals (Medical Council; NSW Nurses and Midwives Tribunal etc). She also acted as Counsel assisting in a number of Coronial inquests.

In 2012, Elaine trained as a Mediator with the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators.

In mid-2013 Elaine retired from her practice and provided consulting services to a number of organisations before establishing WEIR Consulting in 2015.
